Most towns have Christmas light displays at various goverment or businesses that are known for their displays.  Below is a list of ambitious private homeowners who have gone above and beyond the call of Christmas duty.  They even have websites about their displays.  These cover most of the state - so one of these clear nights coming up - toss the kids in the car (in their pajamas) and go check them out!

The Indiana Lifeline Law provides immunity for the crimes of public intoxication, minor possession, minor consumption and minor transportation alcohol to persons who reveal themselves to law enforcement while seeking medical assistance for a person suffering fro an alcohol-related health emergency.

In order to receive immunity, the person must demonstrate that they are acting in good faith by completing ALL the following:
1.  Providing full name and other relevant info requested by law enforcement
2.  Remaining on the scene until law enforcement and emergency medical assistance arrives
3.  Cooperating with authorities on the scene

The law will no interfere with law enforcement procedures or limit the ability to prosecute for other criminal offenses such as providing to a minor, operating while intoxicated, or possession of a controlled substance.

Foreclosure review

Foreclosure
If your home was involved in a foreclosure in 2009 or 2010, you MAY qualify for a free independent review to determine if the process was handled properly.  You MAY be owed compensation or other remedy if there were errors or other problems that caused financial harm.
The federal government has required certain lenders to offer the reviews.  The complete list of these vendors can be found at www.independentforeclosurereview.com. This list includes lenders such as Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, PNC, CountryWide, Sun Trush, HSBC, National City to name a few.
Eligibility requirements are:  loan payments were sent to one of the servicers listed, the foreclosure was initiated, pending or completed between 1/1/09 - 12/31/10, and it involved your principal residence.
Letters were sent out to eligible homeowners in 2011 - but there is always that chance that it was lost in the mail.  If you think you are eligible, call 1-888-952-9105.
You MUST request a review before December 31, 2012.

Indiana Inheritance Tax - possibly on your own money - beware!

A couple got quite a surprise after doing what they thought was a wise decision.  As they got older, they added their daughters name to their bank accounts so she would have access to their funds in case of emergency.
An unexpected tragedy saw their daughter pass away a couple years later.  Two months after her death, they received a tax bill on their own bank account funds!  According to the state law, 1/3 of their own money was "inherited".
Banks are not required to inform customers of this situation - so beware!  Indiana is one of 6 states currently that tax inheritances.  Four states exempt parents (but not Indiana).
Bank officials suggest simply granting a child power of attorney to avoid this situation.
Be sure to consult a professional before doing anything with your money!

'Spooktacular' event celebrates witching season with free fun for entire family

Indianapolis: Washington Square Mall will offer little ghouls and goblins a safe place to haunt this Halloween as they present their annual Safe Trick-or-Treat on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Kids can join in all the frightfully fun activities for Halloween in a safe, climate-controlled environment. Costumed characters are invited to go store-to-store exchanging ghoulish greetings for sweet treats.

In addition to collecting Halloween treats, kids and their parents can also get acquainted with several local community groups and organizations that will have information tables set up throughout the mall. These groups, in addition to retailers, will also be passing out Halloween treats.

Review this list as the sun rises on Halloween and make sure all are checked before dusk.

Home

· Remove hazards from front porch and yard, such as pots, branches, candles and hoses.

· Confine household pets, and make sure they are wearing collars.

· Leave jack-o-lantern carving to adults and use battery-powered lights.

Food

· Talk to children in advance about boundaries for how many pieces of candy will be eaten Halloween night (three to five recommended).

· When choosing candies to give on Halloween, select ones with nutritional value like chocolates (the darker the better) or candies with nuts.

· Send kids trick-or-treating on a full stomach by planning an easy meal, like a bowl of whole-wheat pasta or a quick peanut butter and banana sandwich.

Costumes

· Make sure masks have eyeholes large enough for full vision.

· Check for loose clothing that could easily brush up against jack-o-lanterns.

· Read labels to make sure fabrics are flame resistant-remind to stop, drop and roll.

We Are The Champions!

Fever

Be Proud and Loud Indiana !!!!  We have a championship team RIGHT NOW!!!!

From the Indianapolis Star:

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever and the City of Indianapolis will honor the Fever’s first WNBA championship with a celebration scheduled for Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. The Fever invites its fans throughout Central Indiana to join in Tuesday’s downtown celebration. Details and timing of the event will be announced on Monday.

With its Game 4 victory over the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday evening, the Fever captured the WNBA title during what was its eighth consecutive trip to the WNBA Playoffs. It is the city’s first professional basketball championship since the 1973 Indiana Pacers won the ABA crown.

Fever Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf has guided and directedthe franchise since its inception in 1999 and its first season in 2000. Star player Tamika Catchings has been with the franchise since being drafted by the club in 2001. Head Coach Lin Dunn joined thefranchise in 2003 as a scout and later assistant coach, and hometown girl Katie Douglas, who prepped at Perry Meridian High School and won an NCAA title with Purdue, joined the Fever via trade in 2008. Each of those individuals is celebrating their first WNBA crown after years of successes while falling short of a title.

As of Sunday evening, they are world champions of women’s basketball!  Congrats to the entire team.  We love you gals!
